Recently, Lee confirmed that the script is finished and production could commence in 2025. He mentioned,
"It took me several years to figure out how to crack this film and come up with a way to connect with it," indicating the depth of thought and research involved in the project.
Mason Lee has been his father's choice for the role, as they both aim to start the film as soon as possible, despite the challenges of time travel. Lee initially joined the project in November 2022, with screenwriter Dan Futterman, known for Capote and Foxcatcher, contributing to the screenplay. The project faced delays due to industry strikes and rewrites; however, it appears to be progressing now.
Titled Bruce Lee, the biopic will be produced under Sony’s 3000 Pictures. Interestingly, Lee had previously developed a film on the Thrilla in Manila boxing match, which is currently on hold. Different from his recent works, including Gemini Man, Lee has decided against shooting in 3D, labeling it as "too hard" and deemed the results "bad." Lee, renowned for films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain, hasn't directed since 2019.
