Miss Succession? While we can't offer a continuation of the series, we do have exciting news — Matthew Macfadyen, who portrayed one of its most complex characters, has landed a new role.
He will take on the iconic role of George Smiley in the upcoming series adaptation of The Spy’s Legacy by John le Carré.
Variety reports that Legacy of Spies is in development, with The Ink Factory producing and Fifth Season handling distribution. Stephen Cornwell and Clarissa Ingram penned the initial scripts, with Graham Yost (Silo, Justified, Slow Horses) serving as executive producer.

The series is said to blend multiple le Carré novels, including The Spy Who Came In From the Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and The Honorable Schoolboy, along with unpublished material.
If the series moves forward, Macfadyen will join a distinguished lineup of actors who have portrayed the legendary spymaster George Smiley, including Gary Oldman, Rupert Davies, Alec Guinness, and Denholm Elliott.
Macfadyen saw a resurgence in popularity with Succession, where he played Tom Wambsgans. However, he first gained widespread recognition as Mr. Darcy in Pride & Prejudice (2005), starring alongside Keira Knightley.
