Details remain scarce on the much-anticipated remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic crime thriller High and Low, yet one thing is certain — Denzel Washington will take on the role of Kingo Gondo. However, in a contemporary twist, Gondo is no longer a shoemaker but a powerful music mogul.
In a delight for fans, the first official stills from the film have now surfaced. Washington is seen navigating the subway, clad in a hooded jacket, a New York Yankees cap, and dark sunglasses — an image that hints at a tense, shadowy underworld.
Titled Highest 2 Lowest, this reimagining of Kurosawa’s legendary masterpiece marks the fourth collaboration between Washington and acclaimed director Spike Lee.
Joining Washington in this cinematic venture is Michael B. Jordan. While specific details about Jordan's role remain under wraps, his involvement adds significant star power to the ensemble. The cast also features talents such as Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice, and A$AP Rocky, with the latter reportedly taking on a principal role.
Highest 2 Lowest is slated to premiere out of competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Following its festival debut, the film will be released theatrically by A24, with a subsequent streaming release on Apple TV+.
