The wait for James Gunn’s Superman is almost over, with a new trailer released today to build anticipation. The first trailer, unveiled online last December, quickly became a hit, amassing over 250 million views — the most ever for DC Comics and Warner Bros. content.
Previously titled Superman: Legacy, the film is written and directed by DC Studios co-head James Gunn. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult plays the film’s villain, Lex Luthor, a super-genius with a megalomaniacal streak. The cast also features Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner,Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
In an interview at the 2024 SAG Awards, Brosnahan expressed her excitement about playing Lois Lane, sharing her admiration for the character’s intelligence and ambition. She also revealed her fandom of James Gunn.
This marks the first solo Superman film in over a decade since Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013), which earned $670 million worldwide and launched the current DC Universe lineup including Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, and others. The universe's timeline concluded with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December 2023.
