After much anticipation, Vanity Fair has released the first official images from Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming crime thriller Caught Stealing, and they are drenched in sweat, neon, and attitude. Austin Butler stars as Hank Thompson, a former baseball player turned down-on-his-luck bartender who accidentally lands himself in a deadly game of survival. What begins with an innocent cat-sitting favour spirals into a bloody chase through the criminal underworld of late-’90s New York.
In the first-look stills, Butler looks every bit the reluctant antihero — bloodied, breathless, and in way over his head. Zoë Kravitz plays Yvonne, a tough-as-nails EMT who may be his only lifeline. One frame captures the pair mid-chaos, eyes locked, their chemistry flickering somewhere between danger and desire. The mood is grimy and electric — think After Hours with a body count.
And then there’s Matt Smith, unrecognisable under a wild mohawk as the unhinged Russ — the man who sets everything in motion. The East Village becomes a character in its own right, pulsing with grime, graffiti, and unpredictable energy.
Caught Stealing hits theatres August 29, 2025. This isn’t just another crime flick — it’s a full-throttle fever dream with claws.
