Get ready to scream again. Fede Álvarez — the genre wizard behind Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe, and last year’s adrenaline-charged Alien: Romulus — has officially confirmed that a sequel is already being written. Speaking as guest of honour on the horror podcast Marea Nocturna, Álvarez revealed he and longtime co-writer Rodo Sayagues are knee-deep in scripting duties.
"I’m currently in the period between movies, where I mostly wear the writer's hat," he said. "We're writing a sequel to Romulus, and we're in the middle of that."
While the episode meandered into stories of creative influences and career-defining horror moments, the juiciest bite came at the end: when invited to October’s Sitges Film Festival in Spain, Álvarez teased that he might not be able to attend. Why? Because if all goes to plan, the sequel will be in pre-production by then — possibly even filming. But don’t lose hope, European fans:

"If the production is set in Europe, then I should go," Fingers crossed.
Alien: Romulus, which premiered in 2024, marked a return to the franchise’s gritty horror roots, following a group of scavengers on a derelict space station who stumble upon a deadly Xenomorph. Set between Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, the film was praised for its practical effects, claustrophobic tension, and Álvarez’s signature brutality. Fans have been clamouring for more ever since.
