This strategic move allows the film to premiere during a weekend when it will face competition from Universal's horror film Him and the James L. Brooks' 20th Century Studios project Ella McCay, rather than going up against Disney/Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts, which launches the summer season on May 2.
As a result, May 9 will lack a major studio release, with only IFC's Clown in a Cornfield, which premieres at SXSW tonight, along with Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight and Briarcliff Entertainment’s Juliet and Romeo coming out that weekend.
Directed by Kogonada and written by Seth Reiss, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is described as "an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them." A trailer for the film is expected to be unveiled at CinemaCon during Sony's presentation in two weeks.
Produced by Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Seth Reiss, and Youree Henley, the film features a talented supporting cast including Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater, with financing from 30WEST and production by Imperative Entertainment.
