Filming has begun in Los Angeles on The Invite, a dark comedy directed by Olivia Wilde that reimagines the 'date night' genre. The film brings together a heavyweight cast, including Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton, and Wilde herself.
Adapted by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, The Invite is based on Cesc Gay’s Spanish film Sentimental. The plot follows a couple who invite their neighbours over, only for the evening to spiral into emotional confessions and unexpected revelations.
Wilde’s return to directing comes after the highly publicised drama of Don’t Worry Darling. That film, though commercially successful, drew more attention for what happened off-screen — rumours of cast tensions, missed days on set, and speculation that Florence Pugh stepped in to direct scenes.

Critics weren’t kind: Don’t Worry Darling landed at 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, polarising audiences and pundits alike. Still, Wilde appears undeterred. With The Invite, she’s back with a sharper script, a fresh ensemble, and perhaps a chance to reset the narrative.
