When the Best Actress envelope was about to be opened, Demi Moore wasn’t holding her breath. In fact, she was so certain of the outcome that she whispered it to her manager during a commercial break.
"I leaned over and whispered to my manager, 'I think it’s going to Mikey'" she recalled in an interview with Time. "I don’t know why I know, but I did."
That gut feeling turned out to be right. The Anora star, Mikey Madison, took home the Oscar, but Moore wasn’t rattled.
"I didn’t feel gutted. I just trusted whatever is going to unfold," she said.
But while Moore remained calm on camera, backstage rumors suggest The Substance star was quietly shaken by the Academy’s choice. Many expected Moore — who had just swept the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards — to finally take home her first Oscar. This was her first-ever nomination, and industry insiders were almost sure she’d triumph over Anora breakout Mikey Madison.
