Devil Cruising Around Moscow: The Large-Scale Adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's Mystical Novel 'The Master and Margarita' Premiered in Berlin

Still from the film 'The Master and Margarita'

The Master and Margarita is not just a film adaptation, it is a bold interpretation that makes you take a new look at the classics.

A writer's novel is banned and play canceled. He then conceives a satirical novel where a devil-like character metaphorically revenges those responsible. Knowing it cannot be published, his muse Margarita pushes him to write it anyway.

The Master and Margarita stars August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds), Claes Bang (Bad Sisters), Evgeniy Tsyganov (The Man Who Surprised Everyone) and Yulia Snigir . Lockshin co-wrote the screenplay with Roman Kantor based on Bulgakov’s semi-autobiographical and anti-authoritarian novel, which has sold over 100 million copies internationally and been translated into over 40 languages.

The film has already managed to make quite a stir in Russia: the long-awaited adaptation, controversial cast, mystical atmosphere and political provocations, as well as endless discussions on the Internet. But now it faces a new challenge, a screening in Berlin.

The Master and Margarita Still

The Master and Margarita has arrived in Germany

Despite the sanctions, the premiere of the film in the original with German subtitles will take place on April 24 at the Russian House in Berlin. The organizers call this screening a long-awaited event, and indeed, Bulgakov's work has long occupied a special place in the hearts of viewers around the world.

And it is rare for a Russian film to reach foreign viewers these days.

As they write on the poster:

"A cinematic feast with a powerful visual component, a gripping plot and acting that will not leave anyone indifferent."
