Daenerys’ Body in a Safe Place: What Happened to Drogon After the 'Game of Thrones' Finale

Still from the series 'Game of Thrones'

A piece of history that viewers will never see.

After the tragic ending of Game of Thrones, the fate of Drogon, the dragon who remained a loyal companion to Daenerys Targaryen, remains as mysterious and dramatic as the finale itself. This moment is etched in the hearts of every fan: a lone dragon carrying away the body of his queen, disappearing into the endless sky. But where did he go?

According to the show’s writers, Drogon took Daenerys’ body to Volantis — the city where she supposedly grew up. However, his stay there would be brief. The famous dragon, known for his loyalty, would leave her body at the doorstep of the Red Priests’ temple.

He himself would then journey to a forgotten realm — Valyria. There, among the burning ruins of his ancestors, he would lay his final clutch of petrified eggs. Yes, Drogon is female, and her offspring will almost certainly be discovered one day.

However, the dragon’s fate would be no less tragic. With each passing year, his body would grow heavier and slower. Time is relentless, and in this endless void, Drogon would begin to realize his inevitable end.

"Bran’s summoning voice will grow louder and more demanding. Realizing this, Drogon will take his final flight over the Smoking Sea and dive down…" analysts predict.

A sad conclusion, yet one that will never be seen on television. The showrunners have no intention of continuing the story of Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, or the other characters—they are focused solely on prequel spin-offs. As a result, the epic fall (in every sense) of Drogon is something that Game of Thrones fans can only imagine.
