Christopher Nolan is taking on his first historical epic with an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. Known for his groundbreaking films like Inception and Oppenheimer, Nolan is venturing into the ancient world for the first time, telling the story of Odysseus’ perilous 10-year journey home after the Trojan War.
Legendary Locations for a Legendary Tale
Filming for The Odyssey is set to begin in two months on Sicily’s Favignana Island, famously referred to as 'Goat Island'. Scholars believe this picturesque spot was one of the locations Homer envisioned as part of Odysseus’ journey, where he and his crew landed to rest and gather supplies.

Additional Sicilian locations, such as the Eolian islands, are also expected to feature prominently in the film. Production will extend beyond Italy, with scenes planned in the U.K. and Morocco. Italy’s Wildside, known for handling high-profile projects like Conclave, is managing the Sicilian portion of the shoot.
A Star-Studded Cast
Nolan has assembled an A-list cast for his epic, including Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Holland, and Charlize Theron. While their roles remain under wraps, fans are eagerly speculating who will portray the iconic characters of Odysseus, Penelope, and the gods who shape the story.
With cutting-edge Imax technology, stunning locations, and a legendary tale at its core, Nolan’s The Odyssey promises to bring Homer’s classic to life in a way that has never been seen before.
