Brad Pitt is set to lead the upcoming film adaptation of The Riders, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Edward Berger.
Best known for his work on All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave, Berger will bring Tim Winton’s acclaimed novel to the screen with A24 financing and distributing the project. Production is expected to commence in early 2026, with filming taking place across several European locations — a fitting backdrop for a story steeped in emotional landscapes.
Adapted for the screen by David Kajganich, whose previous work includes collaborations with Luca Guadagnino on Bones and All and A Bigger Splash, The Riders tells the story of a man whose search for his missing wife takes him on a journey across the continent. Relocating with his family to Ireland, he is confronted by an unsettling disappearance that forces him to confront not only physical distances but also emotional and personal truths.

The project marks another intriguing choice for Pitt, who continues to balance large-scale productions with more intimate, character-driven work. He will soon appear in F1, a racing drama directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, and is also attached to The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth, a spinoff from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Tarantino penning the script and David Fincher directing for Netflix.
Meanwhile, A24 continues to expand its eclectic slate. Alongside The Riders, the studio has a number of high-profile projects underway, including Celine Song’s Materialists, Josh Safdie and Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme, and Dwayne Johnson’s Smashing Machine.
