Aragorn is nearly 6'6", Gandalf stands at 5'6", and hobbits barely reach 3 feet: the heights of "Lord of the Rings" characters

Fun facts about our beloved fantasy.

When we imagine the Fellowship of the Ring, epic images immediately spring to mind: Aragorn with his sword, Legolas with his bow, Gimli with his axe. But how tall or short are they? Let's take a look at the heights of the Fellowship members based on Tolkien's books and drafts.

Aragorn and Boromir — as tall as mountains!

Aragorn stands at 1.98 m (6 feet 6 inches), looking truly majestic. Boromir, though slightly shorter, is still tall at 1.93 m (6 feet 4). With these parameters, both heroes certainly appeared as true leaders.

Legolas — Elven grace

Legolas's exact height isn't specified, but according to descriptions, he was slightly shorter than Aragorn and Boromir. Drafts mention that his height ranged from 1.7 to 1.9 m (5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet 3 inches). Tolkien described him as "tall as a young tree," so it's safe to assume that Legolas was very slender and not short.

Gandalf — strength in wisdom

Despite his power and wisdom, Gandalf wasn't a giant. The books state that his height was no less than 1.67 m, or 5 feet 6 inches. This gives an idea of how the wizard, feared by all evil forces in Middle-earth, might have looked.

Hobbits — small but brave!

Frodo and his companions started their journey at 1.05 m (3 feet 5 inches), but thanks to the magic of the Ents, Merry and Pippin grew significantly, reaching 1.35 m (4 feet 5 inches). Despite their small stature, the hobbits showed immense bravery and became true heroes. Thus were the members of the Fellowship, with different heights but equally great in their deeds.

Gimli — short but just as heroic!

Gimli's height is also not specified exactly, but it is known dwarves typically have height of 1.22 m to 1.55 m (4 feet to 5 feet 1 inch). Gimli was probably somewhere in the middle of this range, around 1.3 m (4 feet 3 inches). Small yet mighty! By the way, it's rumored that Gandalf might return to the screens: here's what is known about the production of new "The Lord of the Rings" films.
