In the upcoming crime film Americana, writer-director Tony Tost brings a contemporary Western filled with action, violence, and intersecting lives. As chaos erupts, Halsey exclaims, “Right now, I’m apparently in the middle of a goddamn murder spree,” highlighting the film’s intense tone. Tost, known for helming the Peacock series Poker Face, makes his feature directorial debut with this script he wrote himself.
The story revolves around characters chasing a rare Native American artifact called a “ghost shirt,” leading to violent confrontations involving unconventional weapons like bows and arrows. Critics note that Americana explores Native American perspectives on social issues while subverting Western genre tropes through shootouts and irony. Sweeney also stars in upcoming projects like Echo Valley on Apple TV+ and The Housemaid with Amanda Seyfried.
