Carrie was first reported to be in development at Amazon in October 2024. While there has been no formal announcement regarding a series pickup yet, it is believed to be imminent. The show is based on the iconic Stephen King novel of the same name.
The series’ logline describes it as a “bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. Following her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie must navigate the alien landscape of public high school, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.”
Howell is no stranger to the horror genre, having appeared in the Child’s Play franchise films Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. She has also featured in films like Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, and Harland Manor, as well as multiple episodes of the horror anthology series Channel Zero. Additionally, Howell starred in the Disney+ film Clouds, based on Laura Sobiech’s acclaimed memoir.

Flanagan will write and executive produce Carrie, serving as showrunner and director. Trevor Macy will also be an executive producer.
Carrie was King’s first novel, published in 1974. It became a bestseller and was adapted into a film in 1976 featuring Sissy Spacek. Directed by Brian DePalma, the film grossed over 30millionon with a budget of less than 2 million and is widely regarded as one of the best horror films ever made. The role of Carrie has also been portrayed by s in a 2002 made-for-TV movie and by Chloë Grace Moretz in a 2013 remake.
