After turning heads with their absurdist wilderness fable Sasquatch Sunset, the Zellner brothers are back with another wonderfully strange premise. Alpha Gang, a sci-fi comedy about extraterrestrials disguised as a leather-clad biker gang from the 1950s, sent to conquer Earth — until they inconveniently begin to experience human emotions. Equal parts retro and ridiculous, the project was originally set to shoot last spring but has since hit delays and undergone a significant reshuffle in its cast.
The initial lineup, which included Channing Tatum, Zoe Kravitz, Steven Yeun, and Riley Keough, is no longer attached. In their place, a new ensemble has rolled in, featuring Chris Pine, Lily-Rose Melody Depp, and Adria Arjona. Cate Blanchett and Léa Seydoux remain on board, adding further credibility (and oddball allure) to a project that never promised to play it safe.
Cinematographer Mike Gioulakis, known for his eerie, stylized work on It Follows, Us, and Split, will once again collaborate with the Zellners after shooting Sasquatch Sunset.

With the film still in development and no production start date announced, Alpha Gang is already shaping up to be one of the more curiously ambitious oddities on the horizon — and honestly, it wouldn’t feel right any other way.
