Acclaimed filmmaker Alex Garland is set to bring the brutal beauty of Elden Ring to life in a live-action feature, officially confirmed by A24 and Bandai Namco.
Garland, known for cerebral sci-fi like Ex Machina and the upcoming Warfare, will not only direct but also pen the script, adapting the myth-soaked game world co-created by George R. R. Martin and FromSoftware visionary Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Produced by Peter Rice, DNA Films’ Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, the film promises a rich and expansive take on a universe already famed for its punishing depth and cryptic lore. With over 30 million copies sold since its 2022 launch, the original game dominated the Game Awards that year, scooping titles for Game of the Year, Best Direction, and Best Role-Playing Game.

Set in a decaying fantasy realm of demigods, dungeons, and spectral knights, Elden Ring already reads like a Garland project waiting to happen. Given his eye for haunting landscapes and existential tension, the pairing feels less like an adaptation and more like destiny written in runes. And as A24 leans further into genre storytelling on a blockbuster scale, this marks a bold new chapter for the studio.
Meanwhile, fans of the franchise won’t be left idle — Elden Ring: Nightreign, a new cooperative spinoff, arrives 30 May. Later in the year, the Tarnished Edition lands on the Nintendo Switch 2. The lands between are stirring once more — this time, on screen.
