While details about his character are being kept secret, it may relate to Harrison Ford’s character, therapist Paul Rhoades, who was revealed in Season 1 to have Parkinson’s disease — a condition Michael J. Fox has battled for over 35 years. This marks a special reunion for Fox and Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence, who previously worked together on Spin City, which earned Fox his fifth Emmy.
Fox has also starred in The Michael J. Fox Show and recurred on series like The Good Wife, Scrubs, and others, earning eight additional Emmy nominations. His return to acting is his first since appearing in The Good Fight in 2020 and follows his collaboration with Apple on the documentary STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie.
Shrinking, co-created by Jason Segel, Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein, follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Segel) who begins breaking rules to tell clients what he truly thinks — leading to major life changes. The cast includes, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, and more. Fox joins fellow guest stars Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. The series is produced by Warner Bros.
