Until recently, all we knew about Enemies — an upcoming A24 thriller — was its cast and vague production timeline. Austin Butler and Jeremy Allen White had been quietly attached, with a 30-day shoot planned for June in Chicago. The project was being described as a "spy vs. spy" thriller, but few other details had emerged — especially when it came to the creative lead.
Now, we can confirm that Enemies will be written and directed by Henry Dunham, marking his first project since 2018’s critically noted The Standoff at Sparrow Creek. This will be Dunham’s sophomore feature, and his first in over seven years.
The plot centers on a solitary contract killer (Butler), whose latest assignment draws the attention of a sharp-eyed detective (White). As the story unfolds, the two men are forced to confront unsettling parallels in each other — a tense, psychological interplay that lies at the heart of the film.

Enemies is gearing up for production with a reported $25 million budget, and filming is still on track to begin this summer. According to sources close to the project, much of the crew will transition directly from The Bear, which is currently wrapping its fourth season. While Butler and White are expected to begin promotional work for separate films in late August and September, Enemies is positioned to shoot within a narrow summer window.
Though A24 has yet to officially unveil the project, momentum is clearly building — and with Dunham’s return behind the camera, the film promises to be one of the more compelling entries in the studio’s upcoming slate.
