A Surprising Gesture from a Cinema Giant: Warner Bros. Unexplainedly Decides to Delight Fans of Cult Films

It would be great if streaming services did something similar.

Warner Bros.' bold move caught everyone off guard. The company went against its usual policy and made a strange decision.

In the era of streaming services offering the latest releases with a monthly subscription, the movie studio decided to release a playlist featuring 31 of its cult classics from past years on YouTube in high quality. Considering that it's difficult to find even older films freely available in the U.S., this move is quite surprising.

The idea of Warner Bros. uploading several movies to YouTube for free seems odd, given the money-saving approach under President and CEO David Zaslav. This is the same studio that canceled the finished Batgirl movie for a tax break and won't release Coyote vs. Acme, yet is now offering over 30 titles on YouTube for free.

The free watch playlist includes Lionheart (1990) – Martial arts drama starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Lyon Gaultier, American Ninja V (1993), an action-packed ninja adventure featuring David Bradley as Joe Armstrong, Fantasy action Dungeons & Dragons (2000) with Jeremy Irons as the villain Profion and other cult movies.
