Star Wars has been one of the most profitable media franchises of our time for almost half a century, but every such story has its crises - and now it seems the sci-fi space opera is experiencing one too. Just last week, a new film in the franchise was officially announced, called Star Wars: Starfighter, and Ryan Gosling has been "booked" for the lead role.
However, while the filming of the movie is only just beginning, new details about the process of making the film are constantly leaking online - and they all point to big problems for Star Wars.
A whole list of Hollywood celebrities have turned down roles in Starfighter
Although the upcoming film has already secured Gosling and can now definitely count on success at the box office, nothing is known about the actors playing secondary roles, perhaps because they have not yet been found. According to insiders, Gosling remains the only confirmed actor, since several leading Hollywood actors have previously refused to participate in the film, including Jesse Plemons, Killing Eve star Jodie Comer, Descendants actress Sarah Snook, Greta Lee and even Mikey Madison, who won an Oscar last month for her role in Anora.
The sources do not say what roles the actors were offered, but they all said “No, thank you” to the opportunity to become part of perhaps the most epic film franchise in history.
The budget cuts could also create problems for Starfighter
Such a collection of refusals may well be due to the fact that much less money was allocated for the creation of the future film than for the production of previous Star Wars blockbusters - insiders also report this, but the specific amount is not named. Among other possible reasons is the toxic atmosphere that permeated the franchise with the arrival of Disney and Kathleen Kennedy, which is why most Hollywood stars do not want to have anything to do with the space opera.
Starfighter is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 28, 2027.
