Alejandro González Iñárritu’s next feature, tentatively titled Judy, continues to build anticipation as House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy joins its already impressive ensemble cast.
D’Arcy joins a project shrouded in secrecy, with a cast that includes Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde. Filming has been underway at Warner Bros. Studios in London since December 2024, with the film currently scheduled for release on October 2, 2026.
While plot details remain scarce, it’s known that Cruise leads the film as the most powerful man in the world, who sets out on a desperate mission to prove himself humanity’s savior — all while facing the consequences of a disaster he himself may have set in motion.
The screenplay was written in 2023 by Iñárritu alongside Birdman collaborators Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, as well as Sabina Berman. This marks Iñárritu’s first film since Bardo, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022 and received mixed critical reactions.

For Cruise, Judy represents a return to Warner Bros. after more than a decade; his last collaboration with the studio was 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow. The project also follows his new production deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, signed in early 2024.
Early listings for the project name three-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki as director of photography. Lubezki previously collaborated with Iñárritu on The Revenant, and if confirmed, Judy would mark his first feature film since 2022’s Amsterdam.
Though little has been officially confirmed about the film’s tone or genre, the combination of its ensemble cast, thematic scope, and creative team suggests a high-concept cinematic experience — one that’s already capturing attention well ahead of its release.
