Netflix's Fear Street franchise is back with blood and prom tiaras in Fear Street: Prom Queen, the fourth instalment in the horror series based on R.L. Stine’s iconic books. While critics haven’t crowned it a classic, fans have propelled it to the top of Netflix’s charts — proving once again, horror never goes out of style.
Director Matt Palmer recently revealed that among the usual suspects like Scream and Sleepaway Camp, there’s a quieter, more unexpected influence behind the masked killer’s look: the 1976 cult horror Alice, Sweet Alice. Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Palmer opened up about the film’s visual inspirations and a rather unexpected design twist.
"We were like, 'What color of jacket do we put against the red lockers?"' Palmer shared. "We looked at yellow… then one of our concept artists came back with red on red… and it was like, 'Oh, my God! That looks awesome!"'

It turns out Alice, Sweet Alice wanted a red raincoat too, but Don’t Look Now beat them to it. Palmer added, "We ended up back where Alice, Sweet Alice wanted to be."
With giallo vibes and vintage dread stitched into its fabric, Prom Queen isn’t just nostalgic — it’s a stylish slasher with deep horror roots.
