25,000 Years Before... : 'Star Wars: Dawn of The Jedi’ will explore the origins of the Jedi

Beau Willimon, the creator of House of Cards, has been hired to write the script for James Mangold’s upcoming film Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, which is now slated to begin shooting next fall.

Mangold is expected to shift his focus to this project following the release of A Complete Unknown, making it likely his next endeavor. However, it remains uncertain if this will be the next Star Wars film to enter production, as Shawn Levy is currently preparing to shoot his Rey trilogy.

A mysterious Star Wars film is scheduled for release in December 2027, but Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to provide any details about it. Speculation suggests it could be one of Levy or Mangold’s projects.

Dawn of the Jedi will delve into the origins of the Jedi, set 25,000 years in the past, marking the earliest era in the Star Wars timeline. Willimon, who also contributed to Andor, has been brought on to co-write the film with Mangold, generating excitement among fans.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'

Since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Lucasfilm has not launched a new Star Wars movie. With Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s planned Rey film recently put on hold, Disney has focused its efforts on streaming hits like Andor and The Mandalorian. In line with this strategy, a Mandalorian movie directed by Jon Favreau is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.

In addition to Mangold and Levy, there are at least five other Star Wars projects currently in development, helmed by directors including Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, Donald Glover, Taika Waititi, and Patty Jenkins.
