Tom Hardy caught a reporter off guard during the MobLand premiere. A Deadline journalist attempted to ask a question and fish for information about a possible Mad Max sequel, but the actor cut him off mid-sentence.
In response to the indirect question, "How are you going to fit it into your schedule? Weren’t you supposed to be going to Australia? Or have you already been?" (Mad Max was filmed in Australia) Tom laughed.
"What are you talking about Mad Max? I haven’t got the memo. Look at you fishing? You’re fishing. And even if I was, I wouldn’t tell you."
Director George Miller has expressed interest in continuing the franchise with a film tentatively titled Mad Max:The Wasteland, intended to explore Max Rockatansky's journey prior to the events of Fury Road. However, this project has not yet entered active development.
Tom Hardy, who portrayed Max in Fury Road, has provided mixed signals regarding his involvement in a potential sequel.
In June 2024, Tom Hardy expressed doubt about returning for The Wasteland, stating that he didn't think it was happening. However, by October 2024, his perspective seemed more hopeful, mentioning that he hadn't received any information about it yet, but would obviously love to be involved.
