The series, which reunites the creative team behind Black Bird, will premiere globally on June 27 with two episodes. Created and written by Dennis Lehane, inspired by true events, Smoke follows arson investigator Dave Gudsen (Taron Egerton ) who reluctantly teams up with police detective Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett). Their race to catch two arsonists sparks a twisted game of secrets and suspicions.
The cast also includes Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear, and John Leguizamo. Thom Yorke composed and performed the main title theme, now available on streaming platforms. From Apple Studios, the series is created by Lehane, who also serves as writer and executive producer. Egerton is an executive producer alongside Richard Plepler (EDEN Productions), Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin (Imperative Entertainment), Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle, and Jane Bartelme.
The series draws inspiration from media’s Firebug podcast, hosted by Kary Antholis, who also executive produces. Marc Smerling is an executive producer for Truth Podcasting Corp., with directors including Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay. New episodes will drop weekly every Friday through August 15.
