The reboot of the fantasy Red Sonja has received a fresh still. This new adaptation of the story about the warrior from the fictional Hyborian Age is based on the comic of the same name by Roy Thomas.
The plot follows the chained heroine, who must break free and defeat the tyrant Dragan and his ruthless fiancée, Dark Annisia.
The lead role is played by Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz an Italian actress and model known for her role in Rings (2016), where she portrayed the lead character, Julia. The director of the film is M.J. Bassett, who previously directed episodes of Iron Fist and Ash vs Evil Dead. The film's release in international cinemas is scheduled for the end of 2025.
The original Red Sonja film, released in 1985, starred Brigitte Nielsen as the titular character, a fierce warrior seeking revenge against a tyrant who destroyed her village. Directed by Richard Fleischer, the film was set in a mythical world inspired by the Hyborian Age, a setting familiar to fans of Conan the Barbarian.
Despite mixed reviews, Red Sonja became a cult classic, praised for its action sequences and Nielsen's commanding performance.
