Once Meghan Markle married Prince Harry and stepped into the royal family, she changed her surname. And even after relinquishing her royal duties, she continues to use this name. The reason is deeply personal.
During her interview with the People the ex-Royal family member shared her thoughts on embracing the Sussex title, which was granted to her and Prince Harry by Queen Elizabeth II after their marriage in 2018. Despite stepping down from royal duties in 2020, the couple, along with their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, chose to keep the "Sussex" title as their family name. This decision follows a royal tradition of adopting family titles as surnames.
"It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children," Meghan told the outlet. "I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me."

The title itself, the duchess explain, "is part of our love story."
