Universal is rolling it out theatrically in international markets. So far, it has grossed 6.5 million in France. Notably, Japan and Korea are set for release on April 11 and April 16, respectively. Directed by Michael Morris, the film features a star-studded cast, including Hugh Grant, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall. It has already surpassed the lifetime gross of Ticket to Paradise, making it Working Title’s biggest release since the pandemic.
In the UK & Ireland, Mad About the Boy remains strong at No. 1, amassing $47.6 million, and it has outperformed both Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Love Actually, becoming the fourth largest Working Title film of all time and the third highest-grossing romcom in the region. Released around Valentine’s Day and catering to an underserved female audience, the film has had multiple No. 1 openings in markets including the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands, with Germany also debuting at No.1 last weekend.
The top five markets to date are the UK ($8M), France ($4.5M), and Poland ($4.5M). The screenplay is penned by Helen Fielding, Dan Mazer, and Abi Morgan, with producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Jo Wallett from Working Title. The film was co-financed by Studiocanal and Miramax.
