'It Was a Harsh Winter': One Theory About Shrek's Sons Gives Goosebumps (They Were Forgotten in the Teaser for a Reason)

Still from the film 'Shrek Forever After'

Fortunately, there are also positive theories about the fate of the ogres.

The teaser for the long-awaited Shrek 5 has caused a storm of emotions among fans, but also left more questions than answers. The main one is: where did Shrek and Fiona's sons, Fergus and Farkle, go? In the trailer, we only see their daughter Felicia, voiced by Zendaya. And while some are happy about the return of their favorite characters, others are building dark theories about the fate of the youngest offspring of the green ogre.

Shrek ate his children?

Yes, it sounds like a joke, but fans are seriously discussing this idea. Let's remember how in Shrek the Third the main character jokingly said that ogres sometimes eat their children. He even mentioned how his father tried to "cook" him by bathing him in barbecue sauce and putting an apple in his mouth. Some viewers suggested that there could be some truth in this joke.

"Do you really think Shrek is capable of eating his children?" asks one fan on Reddit.

“It was a harsh winter,” another counters, hinting that the boys could have died for reasons beyond their parents’ control.

A more optimistic theory

Luckily, not everyone believes in such a dark scenario. Many believe that Fergus and Farkle were simply not included in the trailer so as not to overload it with characters. Zendaya is the main new star of the project, and her appearance in the teaser is logical.

“They are not going to show all the characters in the trailer. If the boys do not appear in the movie, you can crucify me,” writes one user.

On the other hand, it would be logical to show all the main characters of the previous parts, to whom viewers have already become accustomed.

What is the reality?

So far, IMDb has confirmed the participation of only Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Zendaya. But this does not mean that Shrek's sons have disappeared forever. Perhaps their roles have not yet been revealed, or they will appear in the film in an unexpected capacity.

In the meantime, we can only guess: is this a dark secret, or just a marketing ploy. In any case, the upcoming journey to the fairytale swamp has never been so intriguing!
