Wearing the cape and cowl might look heroic on screen, but according to Ben Affleck, the reality behind the Batsuit was far from glamorous. In a recent interview with GQ, the actor opened up about the surprisingly grueling experience of suiting up as Batman.
"I hated the Batsuits. The Batsuits are horrendous to wear," Affleck admitted candidly. "They’re hot for one thing. They don’t breathe. They’re made to look the way they want them to look. There’s no thought put into the human being. So what happens is that you just start sweating. I’m already — I sweat, you know what I mean? So in that thing, you’d just be pouring water."
Affleck, who played Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and The Flash, described the costume as more of a physical burden than a source of power. "It also does not make you feel very heroic, because you’re instantly exhausted and really sweaty," he said with a laugh. "Maybe Christian [Bale] or Rob [Pattinson], guys like that, were just better at dealing with it."

This isn’t the first time a Batsuit has come under fire. Back in 2022, Batman director Tim Burton criticized the now-infamous 'Batnipple' suit worn by George Clooney in Batman & Robin. Speaking to Empire, Burton said: "I was like, 'Wait a minute. Okay. Hold on a second here. You complain about me, I’m too weird, I’m too dark, and then you put nipples on the costume?'"
While Batman continues to be one of the most iconic roles in modern cinema, Affleck’s remarks remind us that what looks effortless on screen often comes with a heavy — and sweaty — price.
