Still from 'How to Get Away with Murder'

A funeral, a gunshot, and secrets no one saw coming.

How to Get Away with Murder is a gripping legal thriller that aired from 2014 to 2020 on ABC, spanning six seasons and 90 episodes. The series follows Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), a brilliant, enigmatic law professor and defense attorney at Middleton University in Philadelphia. Her life intertwines with five of her students — Wes, Michaela, Connor, Asher, and Laurel — who become embroiled in a complex murder plot.

Key Characters and Plot Twists

Bonnie Winterbottom (Liza Weil) is Annalise’s associate, whose deep-seated trauma and loyalty lead her to a tragic end. In the series finale, Bonnie dies in Annalise’s arms after Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) assassinates Governor Birkhead, resulting in a crossfire.

The show’s early episodes reveal that Sam Keating (Tom Verica), Annalise’s husband, was murdered by Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch), a member of the Keating 5, during a chaotic confrontation. The group then works together to cover up the crime.

Annalise’s Fate

Contrary to earlier flash-forwards suggesting her death, the series finale unveils that Annalise Keating dies of natural causes years later. At her funeral, her former students and associates reflect on her profound impact on their lives.

Representation and Legacy

The show was lauded for its diverse cast and bold storytelling, including the portrayal of Connor (Jack Falahee) and Oliver (Conrad Ricamora), a couple navigating their relationship amidst legal turmoil. Their storyline was significant for its representation of queer characters and their experiences.
