'He Has Not Forgotten Me' — Ke Huy Quan on Spielberg’s 40-Year Tradition

The legendary filmmaker has been sending Quan holiday gifts for decades.

For nearly 40 years, Steven Spielberg has ensured Ke Huy Quan never feels forgotten during the holidays. The Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies star recently shared on Radio Andy that the director has sent him a gift every holiday season since they first worked together in the 1980s.

A Thoughtful Gesture That Never Ends

"Every single year, when the holiday season rolls around, I would always get that call from his assistant," Quan revealed. "[They'd ask], 'What is the best mailing address?'"

Spielberg, who directed Quan in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and co-wrote The Goonies, has never missed a year. The gifts, Quan says, have often been eerily perfect.

"Sometimes I’d see a new gadget and think, 'Wow, I really want that.' Then sure enough, that’s the gift I get."

A Lifelong Friendship and Unwavering Support

Quan has always expressed gratitude for Spielberg’s kindness. In a 2022 interview with The Guardian, he shared,

"He gave me my first job and, so many years later, he has not forgotten me. Every time I needed help, he’s always there."

Their bond was evident at the 2023 AFI Luncheon, where they shared a warm embrace. Later, at the Golden Globes, Quan thanked Spielberg during his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in Everything Everywhere All at Once, saying, "I was raised to never forget where I came from, to always remember who gave me my first opportunity."

A Celebration of Legacy and Friendship

Quan, whose latest film Love Hurts premieres on Valentine’s Day, recently reunited with his Goonies castmates at his handprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Among those celebrating him were Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, and Josh Brolin, as well as Goonies screenwriter Chris Columbus. Brolin praised Quan’s resilience, calling him "one of the last existences of the American dream."

"You have that Midas touch, my friend," Brolin said. "And you have it because you have that heart of gold."

With Spielberg’s unwavering support and his Hollywood comeback in full swing, Ke Huy Quan’s story continues to inspire.
