'Grief-Stricken': Tormund Reveals the Fate of Jon Snow After the 'Game of Thrones' Finale

Tormund Reveals, Jon Snow

A bleak existence where joy is nearly nonexistent.

It seems increasingly unlikely that we’ll ever see the Game of Thrones spin-off about Jon Snow. That leaves fans with only theories, hopes for George R.R. Martin’s book sequels (which also seem improbable), and the occasional revelation from cast members. One such insight comes from Kristofer Hivju, the man behind Tormund Giantsbane, who likely knows more about Snow’s fate than anyone else. According to him, the former King in the North has been struggling with the weight of Daenerys’ death ever since.

What Has Kristofer Hivju Been Up to Since Game of Thrones?

The Norwegian actor hasn’t disappeared since playing the red-bearded wildling with a penchant for Brienne of Tarth and bears. He appeared in Fast & Furious 8, starred in Netflix’s The Witcher, and even took on dual roles in the drama Twin. However, despite his thriving career, Tormund Giantsbane continues to follow Hivju.

At the SAG Awards in 2020, Hivju admitted that the final gathering with his Game of Thrones co-stars felt like a true farewell to the series. Yet, as it turns out, he hasn’t entirely let go of Tormund.

So, What Happened to Jon Snow?

The Game of Thrones finale left Jon Snow beyond the Wall, far from thrones, power struggles, and bloodshed. In theory, he was seeking a new life among the free folk. But according to Kristofer Hivju, this existence is far from happy.

"Jon is up there at the Wall, and he’s dealing with serious depression. Tormund would be there to lift his spirits, sitting by the fire with him. Tormund is also grieving and feeling down, so I think they would have formed an even stronger bond because of that!"

Thus, the fate of one of Game of Thrones’ most beloved characters appears rather grim — exile, sorrow, and a lack of hope for the future. But at least he has Tormund, and with him, even hopelessness might seem a little brighter.
