Production on Enola Holmes 3 is officially underway in the U.K., bringing the beloved young detective back to the screen with a new director and plenty of unanswered questions. The third chapter in the Netflix franchise has started filming at Shepperton Studios, with additional shoots scheduled to take place in Malta later in production.
This time around, acclaimed Adolescence director Philip Barantini takes over from Harry Bradbeer, who helmed the first two films. Barantini’s rise in popularity — especially after Adolescence became the first streaming series to top the U.K.’s weekly ratings — hints at a potentially darker and more grounded tone for the upcoming sequel.
While plot details remain under wraps, Enola Holmes 3 is expected to continue storylines left open in the second installment. These include the escape of Sharon Duncan-Brewster’s Moriarty and the introduction of Himesh Patel’s Dr. John Watson, both of which teased new dangers — and new dynamics — within the Holmes universe.

Millie Bobby Brown is confirmed to return as Enola, but the involvement of Henry Cavill (Sherlock Holmes), Helena Bonham Carter (Eudoria Holmes), and Susan Wokoma (Edith) has not yet been confirmed. Cavill’s possible absence has already sparked speculation among fans, given his central role in the previous films.
The franchise is based on the bestselling book series by Nancy Springer and first launched in 2020, quickly winning over audiences with its mix of mystery, charm, and a rebellious young heroine at its center. The second film, released in 2022, deviated from Springer’s novels to incorporate historical events, notably the 1888 matchgirls’ strike.
There’s still no release date set for Enola Holmes 3, but with filming underway and stakes higher than ever, fans can expect more intrigue, twists, and perhaps some long-awaited answers.
