Director Robert Eggers, known for his works The Lighthouse and Nosferatu, told what he will never make a movie about in his life. It would seem surprising that a person who makes very diverse and mostly dark films drives himself into a frame. But it is even more surprising when you find out what exactly is taboo for the master.
Eggers admitted that he prefers to explore the atmosphere of the past on the screen. The modern world with its attributes, according to the director, does not inspire him as an artist at all. Therefore, two objects that will not appear in the frame for a second are a car or a smartphone.

"The idea of having to shoot a car disgusts me. And the idea of shooting a smartphone is just death. To create a modern story, you need to take a mobile phone into the frame, so no," he noted.
According to Eggers, he is interested in time periods no later than the 1950s. In his opinion, there is more space for artistic research in them.
