'Death of A Unicorn': A Dark R-Rated Fantasy with Surreal Twists Hits Theaters

​Death of a Unicorn, directed by Alex Scharfman, is a darkly comedic horror film that premiered at the South by Southwest Festival on March 8, 2025, and was released in U.S. theaters on March 28, 2025. ​The narrative follows Elliot (Paul Rudd) and his teenage daughter Ridley (Jenna Ortega) as they inadvertently kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat. They bring the creature to the estate of Elliot's employer, billionaire Odell Leopold (Richard E. Grant), where its healing properties are discovered, leading to unforeseen and perilous consequences.

Filming Locations

Principal photography took place in Hungary, with filming commencing in July 2023. The production received a waiver to continue during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, as A24 is not part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
