In modern cinema, there’s a long list of successful franchises that many famous directors have tried to revive — but few can match the records set by Back to the Future. The trilogy, directed by Robert Zemeckis, concluded with its third film in 1990, but rumors of potential sequels, spin-offs, or even a reboot have never stopped circulating since then.
This has divided the fans of the franchise into two camps: while some are already casting actors for a remake, others continue to boycott the idea, sincerely believing the story should be left alone. Recently, however, fans who belong to the latter group received some very good news.
Back to the Future Writer Against Sequels and Reboots
It seems that the franchise might actually be left alone now — at least, it’s hard to imagine anyone pursuing it so eagerly after the recent words of Back to the Future writer and producer Bob Gale. In a recent interview, he confessed that he was tired of endless questions about whether the franchise would get a sequel or reboot, and he didn’t understand why people continue to discuss something that ended over 30 years ago.

According to Gale, many fans keep pestering him with the same question, apparently thinking that repeating it a million times might change his mind. He then clarified that there would be no continuation, spin-off, or reboot of Back to the Future, and that the franchise is perfect just as it is.
Back to the Future Won’t Return to the Big Screen — but Keeps Conquering Stages
Although fans of the sci-fi comedy now have little to look forward to, some might have had a stroke of luck when the story was transformed into a theatrical production. In the same interview, Gale mentioned that the Back to the Future musical is currently touring the world, with tickets sold out months in advance.

The writer also took the opportunity to acknowledge that Back to the Future remains iconic due to its fans, and he was happy to have been part of what is now a legendary franchise.
