For the 40th anniversary of the iconic Back to the Future franchise, the creators are preparing something new to delight fans. This comes 30 years after the last film in the series. Yes, even though more than 30 years have passed since the release of the final film, Robert Zemeckis's masterpiece has firmly secured its place among the greatest fantasy films of all time.
Bob Gale, the screenwriter who co-wrote the Back to the Future films with Robert Zemeckis, along with other key members of the trilogy’s creative team, has consistently stated that a sequel or reboot is off the table. However, Gale did share some exciting news with Cleveland.com, revealing that a new Back to the Future video game is currently being developed.
“We’ve got a shot at a new video game based on Back to the Future. I don’t want to tell you any more than that because I’m not allowed to, but this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Knock on wood that it will happen. Of course, 2025 is the 40th anniversary of the original movie. We’re planning on some events, plus there’s a documentary that’s in post-production now about the making of the musical.”

Back to the Future has seen several video games over the years, including tie-ins and the Telltale narrative series that continued the story after the third film. With the 40th anniversary approaching, a new game is in development, and unlike previous titles, it seems to be a true continuation of the trilogy. While details are scarce, Bob Gale’s excitement and hints suggest this could be a direct follow-up, much like Telltale’s series, making the upcoming game particularly thrilling for fans.
