Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her role as Trinity in The Matrix, recently opened up about her decision to step away from Hollywood at the peak of her career. In an interview with The Independent, Moss revealed that she turned down major acting opportunities after the success of The Matrix trilogy to focus on raising her children — something she never regretted.
"I remember being torn, having a little twinge like, 'Gosh, I’m getting offered such great things. That would be such a huge deal.' And I was holding my baby in my arms, and I remember thinking, 'At the end of my life, will it matter to me that I have another movie on my résumé? Or will it matter to me that I held my baby?' And I instantly thought, no. It was just a no-brainer. And I’m so glad I did that. I’m so glad I don’t have that regret."
A Career on Her Own Terms
Although Moss took a step back from Hollywood, she eventually returned to the industry, carefully choosing projects that suited her. She found her way back into franchise filmmaking with her role as Jeri Hogarth in Marvel’s Jessica Jones and, more recently, as a Jedi in the Star Wars series The Acolyte. However, the latter was short-lived, as the series was canceled after just one season.

"It’s always disappointing when something doesn’t get picked up," Moss admitted. "But I’m never really too shocked. This is the kind of business that’s not for everybody – eventually you have to get pretty realistic about it."
The Return to The Matrix
Moss also reprised her iconic role as Trinity in The Matrix Resurrections (2021). However, the film struggled at the box office due to Warner Bros.’ decision to release it simultaneously in theaters and on streaming (HBO Max).
"It was an odd time," Moss said of the film’s release. "They put it on some streaming platform. But I really don’t spend too much time thinking about what people think of things. I’ve always said this, and it’s kind of cliché, but you only have control over your own experience. That film was really such a gift, and I loved making it."
Despite the ups and downs, Moss has built a career on her own terms. Choosing family over career at the height of her fame may have cost her some big roles, but for her, it was never a difficult choice.
