'Always Disliked Them': George Martin Sincerely Despises the Legendary Olsen Twins - You'll Laugh Out Loud When You Find Out the Reason

George Martin, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

The writer is not vindictive, he is just angry, and he has a good memory.

George Martin is the man who created one of the most complex and brutal fantasy worlds. But it turns out that his personal enemies do not include dragons or dark elves, but two harmless cute twins. We are talking about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, sisters who became stars thanks to the series Full House. And their conflict with Martin is a Hollywood drama with elements of black humor.

A cute family sitcom of twins in the 80s shattered Martin's dreams of television success.

At that time, he worked on the fantasy series Beauty and the Beast, which starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. Everything was going well until NBC decided to put a series about an ideal American family with two chubby twin girls in the same slot. Viewers chose Olsen, and the ratings for Beauty and the Beast plummeted.

Beauty and the Beast Still

“The damn thing became a hit, and the network kept pushing us harder and harder: ‘Oh my God, you’re wasting your time,’ and you know, that’s why I always hated the Olsen twins,” the writer said in an interview.

One Step Away from Evil Irony

Interestingly, the twins’ younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, almost ended up in Martin’s world. She auditioned for the role of Daenerys Targaryen, but her audition was a disaster. In an interview, she recalled:

“It was terrifying. I had to give a speech after Daenerys came out of the fire, and I was standing in a tiny room with a casting director. No reader, no atmosphere. It was uncomfortable for me, and I’m sure it was uncomfortable for her, too.”

If Elizabeth had gotten the part, it would have been the perfect irony: Martin, who hates the Olsen girls, would have been forced to work with one of them. But fate decreed otherwise: Elizabeth became the Scarlet Witch in Marvel, and Daenerys was played by Emilia Clarke.
