Since the beginning of the year, Anora has been on the agenda — it is discussed by viewers, critics, directors. Some call the film a real breakthrough, others — an overrated work, not worthy of such high-profile awards.
Serbian director Emir Kusturica also could not pass the film by, but his opinion was much harsher than most. And while many admired the acting and atmosphere, Kusturica was extremely categorical.
At a press conference dedicated to the XXIII International Debut Film Festival 'Spirit of Fire', the director unexpectedly spoke about Anora, comparing it to a film whose title can be translated as Gold or Shit, writes News.

Despite harsh criticism, he noted the acting of Yura Borisov, calling it "enormous". However, according to him, even a strong actor could not save the film, which he considers empty and devoid of morality. Kusturica does not understand what viewers should take away from this story.
"This is a film without morality. Who is it for? These are the heroes - this drug addict with a prostitute? I do not understand."
The director's words caused a strong reaction. Some supported his opinion, believing that modern cinema increasingly relies on provocations, forgetting about meanings. Others recalled that cinema has long gone beyond clear moral standards, and the story of Anora is not a moral lesson, but a reflection of reality.
In any case, there are practically no indifferent people to the film. Some put it on a par with great works, others consider it overrated. But the fact remains that Anora has become one of the most talked about films of the year, and perhaps this is it's greatest success.
