Will 'A Working Man' Bring Anything Fresh? Jason Statham Reprises Familiar Hero Role

Jason Statham in 'A Working Man'

Lets hope this time Statham’s role will showcase new depth.

Oh, this Jason Statham. A true standout. We can’t even enjoy his latest work before he starts delighting us with a new project. The actor has already posted a photo from the set of his upcoming work, A Working Man, on his social media. However, it seems that Statham's roles as a savior are repeating, and we have found many similarities with his previous works.

The premise of A Working Man does indeed echo themes from some of Jason Statham's past roles, where his character is forced to return to their old, dangerous profession to save someone or solve a crisis. A few of his films feature similar storylines:

In The Transporter (2002), Statham plays Frank Martin, a retired special operative who is pulled back into action when hired to transport a package, leading him into dangerous situations and a larger conspiracy. Similarly, in The Mechanic (2011), Statham's character, Arthur Bishop, a retired hitman, returns to avenge his mentor’s death, getting entangled in deceit and betrayal.

In Parker (2013), Statham’s character, a thief named Parker, is betrayed by his crew, and after being left for dead, he returns to his old ways for revenge and to reclaim what was stolen, echoing the theme of a retired character returning to action for a personal cause.

Anyway, let’s wait for the premiere on March 28 and hope that A Working Man will bring something new and showcase Statham’s talent in a fresh way. Directed by David Ayer and written by Ayer and Sylvester Stallone, the film is based on Chuck Dixon’s 2014 novel Levon's Trade. It stars Jason Statham, David Harbour, Michael Pena, and Jason Flemyng. The movie will be released in the U.S. by Amazon MGM Studios and internationally by Warner Bros. Pictures.
