While X-Men Veterans Return for 'Doomsday', Fans Wonder Where Storm Is — Halle Berry Has an Answer

The actress responds to questions about her missing chair.

At this year’s CinemaCon, Halle Berry made it clear: Storm won’t be joining the cast of Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday. While several of Berry’s fellow X-Men alumni have already been confirmed for the film — including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer — Berry says her name won’t be among them.

"Keep waiting," she told a reporter from Black Girl Nerds, when asked about the now-trending 'director’s chair' announcements for the Doomsday cast. "It’s not going to be there. It’s not going to be there."

Berry portrayed Storm in four X-Men films between 2000 and 2014, making her one of the franchise’s most iconic faces. When Marvel teased that more cast members for Avengers: Doomsday would be revealed in future announcements, many fans remained hopeful that Berry would return. Her comments at CinemaCon, however, suggest that hope may be misplaced.

It’s not the first time Berry has shared her willingness to return as Storm. In a 2023 interview with ComicBook.com, she recalled being asked about it by Blake Lively — wife of Ryan Reynolds, who stars in Deadpool & Wolverine.

"Blake asked me one time — I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show — and she said, 'Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?' I said, 'Yeah, if he asked me,' but he never asked me," Berry said.

She’s not the only major Marvel name missing from the Doomsday cast — at least for now. Chris Pratt, known for his role as Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, was also absent from the announcement.

Speaking to Collider, Pratt joked about the omission: "They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there." Previously, on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Pratt reminded fans that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with a clear promise:

"The last time you saw Star-Lord there was a promise that Star-Lord would return. All I can say is we will make good on that promise."

Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production and is slated to open in theaters May 1, 2026. While some iconic heroes are confirmed and others remain a mystery, it seems Storm — at least in the form of Halle Berry — won’t be making a comeback this time.
