2025 is set to launch one of the most anticipated remakes in recent memory. The legendary Barbarella is returning to the big screen, and this time, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney is taking on the iconic role of the fearless space adventurer. Directed by Edgar Wright, renowned for his unique blend of sharp humor and visual style in films like Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, this fresh take on the 1968 cult classic is poised to captivate both old fans and new audiences.
Speaking to Empire Magazine (as reported by Screen Rant), Sweeney revealed that she was just in London for a meeting regarding the Barbarella remake.
"I can’t say too much, but it’s really going to come together in a very, very fun and big way. It’s a long process. I don’t think people realize how long some things can take, but it’s gonna be worth the wait…" Sweeney said.

The original Barbarella, with Jane Fonda’s memorable performance, brought together sci-fi, sensuality, and satire in a way that left a lasting cultural impact. Now, Sweeney is ready to infuse the character with her own energy, describing Barbarella as "fearless" and "unapologetically confident."
When asked if playing Barbarella was on her bucket list, Sweeney enthusiastically responded, "Yes, it is! That’s what I’m saying! My thirties, I’ve really got to step it up!"

With Edgar Wright’s distinct approach and a script penned by Jane Goldman and Hani Ross, this remake promises to offer a nostalgic yet modern twist. Barbarella is about to return in 2025 — get ready for a space odyssey like no other.
