The second season of Severance brought viewers closer to unraveling the mystery of the Lumon company and its employees. However, some questions still lingered in the air, leading to a series of fan theories that may seem impossible at first glance, but upon closer inspection, can find some evidence. One of these theories revolves around the true identity of Helly.
Who is Helly, really?
The plot of the second season partially centers on the idea that Ex-Helena has been pretending to be the introvert for a long time. Even Mark, who spends a lot of time with his colleague, doesn’t notice this. The deception becomes apparent only to Irving.
Fans have speculated that in fact, the two personalities of the character are intertwined. Her introvert is too bold and assertive, while her extrovert is more gentle and calculating. This is in contrast to other characters, whose personalities are the opposite.
This is hinted at in the scene in episode nine, when Jamie Egan meets the heiress and addresses her as "my Helly," as though he sees the personality of his daughter in this split version. If this theory holds, the ending of the second season looks very bleak. The freer version of the heroine, who always wanted to break out of the company’s walls, stays there for Mark.
What’s wrong with Milcheck in Severance?
This has led fans to suggest that Milcheck might actually be a "mole," planted to "take down" Lumon from the inside. However, he could only sabotage the company after receiving a promotion. Before that, his only actions were limited to small incidents — for example, he was the one who "forgot" Ricken’s book in the office.
