They Said They’d Never Work Together Again — But Raimi and Elfman Reunite for a New Horror Ride

Danny Elfman and Sam Raimi

Fifteen years later, the iconic duo returns with star power.

It’s been over a decade since Sam Raimi last dipped his toes into pure horror, but he’s finally back — and he’s not coming alone. Send Help, his upcoming genre blend of horror, comedy, and adventure, marks a long-awaited return to the twisted terrain he helped define. Set on a remote island and following the misadventures of Linda, a highly capable woman marooned with her intolerable boss after a plane crash, the film promises both survival stakes and psychological unease — think Cast Away with a dash of Misery, and a Raimi twist of chaos for good measure.

Leading the cast is Rachel McAdams as Linda, bringing both sharp intelligence and emotional depth to the role. She’s joined by Dylan O'Brien as the impossible boss, Bradley, whose fate may depend entirely on her goodwill. Rounding out the central trio is Denis Haysbert, adding gravitas to a film that promises to be as unsettling as it is oddly funny. With this kind of cast, the island might not be safe — but it will certainly be watchable.

But perhaps the most surprising plotline isn’t in the script. Danny Elfman, the Oscar-nominated composer behind Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, is officially reuniting with Raimi for the score — a collaboration many thought buried for good. Their creative partnership, which began with 1990’s Darkman and blossomed through A Simple Plan and Spider-Man, imploded during the fraught production of Spider-Man 2. Elfman once described the experience as "miserable," swearing off future projects with Raimi. Now, in a twist worthy of its own screenplay, they’re working together once again.

Send Help also boasts a script from A Quiet Place duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, reworking an earlier draft by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason, Baywatch). With a tight, high-concept premise and a cast packed with familiar faces, the film looks set to rekindle some of the old Raimi magic — the kind that’s messy, bold, and darkly funny.

After years spent dabbling in the multiverse (Doctor Strange) and fantasy spectacle (Oz the Great and Powerful), Raimi’s return to his horror roots feels like a homecoming. If Send Help delivers on its promise, it may well be the unhinged island getaway fans of The Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell have been waiting for.
