After carving his name into World War II cinema, Jorma Tommila’s unstoppable Aatami is gearing up for a second brutal chapter. Sony Pictures' Screen Gems has officially set Sisu 2 for a theatrical release on November 21, 2025, bringing back the gritty action that made the original a cult hit.
Director Jalmari Helander is also returning, ensuring the sequel retains the wild energy and offbeat tone that defined the first film. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, but Sisu 2 promises to push the boundaries even further.
This time, the action shifts from Finland to Estonia, marking a fresh backdrop for Aatami’s next battle. With a budget reportedly more than double that of the original’s $6 million, expectations are understandably high for even more elaborate action sequences and brutal showdowns. A world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is rumoured, echoing the successful debut of the first film.
The original Sisu, set during the final days of World War II, introduced audiences to a nearly mythical figure — a gold prospector with the survival instincts of a warrior and the resilience of a tank. With minimal dialogue and maximal carnage, Tommila’s portrayal drew comparisons to a 1940s version of John Wick, delivering grim humour and inventive violence that resonated with viewers around the globe, especially after a strong showing on Netflix.
With Tommila once again stepping into Aatami’s battered boots, and a bigger canvas to play on, Sisu 2 looks set to deliver another ferocious blast of old-school action — and if the first film was any indication, Aatami’s enemies should start running now.
