Veteran film producer Paddy Higson has passed away at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was celebrated for her collaborations with director Bill Forsyth, notably on the 1981 cult classic Gregory's Girl" In a heartfelt social media post, her family shared that she was surrounded "by so much love" in her final moments. Actor David Hayman referred to her as "the mother of the Scottish film industry."
Higson began her career in the 1970s as a production secretary at the BBC before teaming up with Forsyth and Peter Mullan on films like The Magdalene Sisters and Orphans. She also produced episodes of popular TV series such as Taggart, Monarch of the Glen, and Cardiac Arrest.
Even after retirement, she remained active, working on the children's show Katie Morag and leading the filmmaking charity GMAC. She created initiatives to help young people enter the industry. In 2018, Hayman honored her with a Scottish Bafta for her outstanding contributions. Her children announced that funeral arrangements would be made soon, expressing their heartbreak while acknowledging her legacy as a kind and generous pioneer.
